Do it now

  1. I quit drinking 10 days before my birthday.

I realised there was nothing to be gained by carrying on the bad habit that was holding me back, so I just quit, on a random weekday in May.

2. Tomorrow morning, I’ll have my last rowing workout of 2024.

2025 isn’t a new year in that sport; it’s just the same season that started back in September. Because rowing is so tied to the academic year I plan my year in an academic diary.

So on New Year’s day I’m 4 months in.

3. I heard a great bit of advice about the gym.

“Start a gym habit when you’re busy as hell. That way you’ll build a habit you can stick to.”

Starting habits in a quiet holiday is a terrible way to start. It’s an artificially easy way to find the time.

These 3 stories all have the same conclusion.

Getting swept along with everyone else’s excitement is a sure fire way to spend January doing something you’re not really into and you haven’t cleared time for.

If you’re thinking about resolutions already, decide it today, in private, and just start.

Buy a domain name if you have to, build a landing page with a waitlist, and show it to someone.

If you have too options many to pick from, I built this free tool earlier in the year, while I was trying to learn to code. It might be useful

It’s a bit rough but a few people have found it useful. Let me know if it’s any use to you?

See you in 2025. Let’s make it a prosperous one
