…and probably don’t care 
Kieron tagged me in an ongoing game that seems to be expanding, last time I saw it it was just 5 things, so I’ll have to put my thinking hat on.
“Each person posts the rules before their list, then they list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to 8 other people and then visits those peoples’ sites and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come read the post, so they know what they have to do.”
It’s a bit like one of those chain letters you’d do as a kid, and as I’m easily distracted by anything childish, here I go…
1) I have a long career in gathering consumer data, but the first list I ever built online was in 1999 for Remington, of “I liked it so much…” fame. This was the first data ever gathered for Axciom’s Emailinform programme which I still promote occasionally.
I wanted to call it EmailOffers.com and the domain was still available, but my boss pulled rank. I still think my idea was best.
2) I hold grudges for a REEAALLY long time, but I’m also easily bought.
3) Shine Marketing is my 15th employer. It’s my own company, I’m planning on staying here a while, although another agency did approach me buy the company last year when the only assets were a laptop and a desk in my spare room. I almost managed not to laugh.
4) My first ever paid job was as a gamekeeper’s assistant. I got to use the voice activated skeet shoot at the end of each day.
I was 12, I think that’s a healthy age to be allowed to play with shotguns, don’t you?
5) Despite being well overweight at the moment I love spending money on cycling gear. I actually like it when it rains a bit as it gives me an excuse to wear my favourite Nalini race jacket. I can see the window of the local racing bike shop from my desk and I’m lusting over a new bike as usual.
6) I’m not in a meeting this afternoon. I’ll be in the pub over the road watching the Tour de France, or what’s left of it.
7) Last time I was on TV was in a BBC drama called A Likeness in Stone. It’s a murder mystery set in Oxford so it has to have a rowing scene in. I think there’s a law that says you have to. I was the stroke man in a crew that had Colin Firth’s brother, Jonathan sat behind me. It was actually shot at Dittons Skiff Club and the rest of the crew were from Kingston Rowing Club, although we were supposed to be students I don’t think anyone in the crew was under 30.
8) The Kingston Rowing club website was the first site I ever built, back in about 1996 and it looks it. It also made the first affiliate sale I ever did, a copy of “Steven Redgrave’s Complete Book of Rowing” on Amazon. Redesigning the site is on a very long list of things I should have done this month.
