This week seems to have gone in the direction that no one was predicting.

While all the news media are straight out fear-mongering about the economy, in one day yesterday I had calls about:

  • A partnership in a supplements business that’s finally moving forward
  • Some evergreen email for a household gadgets site.
    (If any of you are old enough to remember the innovations catalogue, you’ll know how excited I am about this one)
  • Another email project for a big sports community – not my niche but there are some quick wins that even some mediocre copy would open up at next to no cost.

Then there’s some webinar work for another agency that I part-own and consult for.

I finally ground the CEO down to do a webinar and she smashed the first one, pulling in a whole raft of big brands.

(If you think webinars are just for scammy internet marketers, think again.)

It’s like the economy got back from holiday, decided to skip quarantine, and just got on with it.

Anyway, this is email, not Instagram so I’ll stop gloating, but not before today’s lesson.

All this came about because less than a year ago  I:

  • Started to build an audience on Twitter
  • Spoke to them regularly to build authority
  • Built an email list
  • Made them offers by email

In the grand scheme of things, my audience is tiny.

I have just over 2,000 followers on Twitter and this list is smaller than that.

I built most of it from tiny paid offers like this one. (That $1 keeps the cheapskates out and keep my list quality tip-top.)

I’ll keep talking with my list even in months like this when I’ve more work than I can handle, because I love the feedback I get and the connections it sparks.
